Disaster Tracking
September 10th, 2005 Edit
After watching all of this hurricane Katrina business it dawned on me that these areas are in shambles, peoples lives are ruined and we have incompentent State and Federal Governments. To add insult to injury personal belongings are destroyed, lost and blown away.
My idea is a GPS tracking system for personal belongings. From what I understand it is fairly simply to make small GPS chips. What we would do is market these chips for very important and personal belongings - ie urns with or without ashes, heirloom jewlery, etc. People could attach the GPS chips to a number of items, that way, in the event that a disaster strikes you just might have a chance to track down at least SOME of your belongings.

GPS is a one way communication. The GPS devices that we use to figure out our position read data from satellites in range and calculate the position from that. So whatever they use to track things it isn’t really GPS persay, even though it may use position data from a GPS.
