Consumer Lending - with a philanthropic twist

February 25th, 2006 Edit

Recently I have been thinking about consumer to consumer lending. There are a few sites out there that specialize in this, like Zopa, but it is all kind of geared toward the generalist eBay type crowd. Basically what we will do is create a business model where consumers lend to consumers for good causes. Like building up the community, doing good for the environment, etc.. I would feel a lot better about lending my money if I knew where it was going and how it is going to be used. Also, this creates a selling point, you can charge better rates if people are more emotionally attached.

I agree. Check out http://www.prosper.com. It’s a U.S. based people-to-people lending site, and you can see where your loans are going and generally how they intend to be used.
