My Life in Textile ™

Grandpa Stanley’s Hamilton Watch

My life in Textile is my newest idea for a blog / social network. Recently I have been tooling around Dandelife which at first seemed amazing, but as time went by, you get bored with it. Because it all revolves around dates (as in what is today’s date). Not much fun about browsing dates in a year.
When I was on the El today I noticed this trendy dude had this interesting chain bracelet and I thought. I bet this trendy dude has some facinating story about how he got this bracelet, what it means to him, some interesting how he almost lost it story etc…then I thought, everything we wear has some type of story behind it. Whether it be your shoes, your favorite shirt, your hole-y pair of argyle socks. Clothes have an amazing life (or soul) behind them if you really think about it.
Well my idea is to create a blog called My Life in Textile ™, okay not the best name, but… where I would post items of clothing (or bracelets / watches etc…) and write a story about it.
For example, the photo above is Grandpa Stanley’s Hamilton Watch. My dad was rumidging through some of his crap and came across a box full of mens jewelry. He was showing me all these tie tacks and cuff links and telling me these stories how he was a kid trying on these from his Uncle Loren and then he pulls out this really nice looking watch and goes, “Hey this was your Grandpa Stanley’s watch, you want it?” Wait, you mean the Grandfather I never met, the one that died 14 years before I was born, the one I was NAMED AFTER…YES I WANT IT. Sure I had to pay an arm and a leg to get it restored, but no one can touch what this watch means to me.
So you get the jist? Kind of like Post Secret except not so secretive.
